Re: Worm Drive Gear Ratio
Bob F- If there is no stamping it is most likely a high speed because that was the initial offering. The stamping came when they started offering the low speed option, to identify which was which. See the following thread on how to confirm high or low speed rear differential. http://forums.aa-fords....

Thanks, Neil.
Looks similar, first design was pinned-on levers (my truck) and the second design had integral forged levers.

Re: dual high paint color?
Well, mine is now a very fresh coat of engine green. As you all know, there were 3 dual high designs. Mine is design 2, with the hexagonal case, which was only in production from March '28 to mid '28 according to RGJS. Designs 1 and 3 seem very similar, with the round case. Maybe design 2 was made b...

Re: Early (2 piece) brake cross shafts won't come out
Thanks, Bill- You've provided a great clue! According to the RGJS (Area 7-4, Revised 2011): 1) "The first 2-piece shaft (A-2485-A) had a pinned lever (eye on top, clevis on bottom). It was limited to the first 20,000 cars and ended in February 1928." 2) "The second shaft (A-2485-B) ha...

Re: Early (2 piece) brake cross shafts won't come out
Thanks, KVO. I ground the peened head off and tried punching the rivet out without success. Will probably have to drill them out, but hard to hold the shaft fixed when in the frame. I know I'm whining, but it should be easier!

Early (2 piece) brake cross shafts won't come out
OK, last parts to come off my frame are the left and right brake cross shafts on my early 28 truck. However, the inside lever at the end of the shaft won't fit through the slot in the frame (that the shaft goes through). The slot is about 1-1/16" and the shaft end of the lever is about 1-1/4&qu...

Re: dual high paint color?
I have just disassembled my dual high (Design 2) and found the rear hexagonal case was painted Ford engine green before being machined. Please see the attached pictures showing the inside of the rear case. Hopefully you can distinguish the engine green color inside the case, and more importantly tha...

Spacers for rear axle bumper?
My early 28 AA stakebed has spacers between the frame and the rear axle bumpers. They appear original, but does anyone know if these were available from the factory? They look too nice to be an owner modification

Re: Rear spring shackle bolts
Thank you, Neil. Informative response as always. My April28 truck has hex head bolts, while I also have a July28 frame with rear springs that has square head bolts, hence my confusion. And then I couldn't find the RGJS reference. But now I know that each frame is correct for their respective month! ...

Rear spring shackle bolts
What's the correct shackle bolt for early 1928, hex head or square head? I couldn't find this in the RG&JS.

Re: High speed rear axle
I got the two inner seals out and here's a couple of photos of what they look like. I spoke with Snyders, who don't have a replacement but referred me to Tom of Model A Ford Works in Portland and he confirmed that it is a TT carryover. Apparently this seal wasn't used for very long in the AA (rememb...
