Re: Almost ready:1931 AA

Man that's a sweet looking truck. What's hiding in the garage? 28-29 roadster? That's the 1928 Special Coupe we finished up in 2010. Then we did up a 1929 Tudor Sedan for an "extra car" for my Father finished in 2012. Now this 31 for me and next up will be a restoration of Dad's 1930 P/u....

Re: Almost ready:1931 AA

she looks pretty! love the red chevrons on the back bed! Thanks! I looked at a lot of ways of putting something reflective on the back and most were too commercial, agricultural, or just boring. I happened upon an old black and white photo of a truck in the late thirtys or early forties with some r...

Re: Almost ready:1931 AA

Just a few more things too track down for the rack system. I am short a few of the stakes and need new wood and hardware in places. The front, side, racks have the solid sheet metal panels (I call them advert panels) and I have found the wood slats to be riveted to the stakes and through the panels....

Re: Almost ready:1931 AA

Thanks for the compliments! I only regret this one is a year late as I had trouble with painter and wood workers. Just getting the ducks in order for VIN and insurance, so I'll allow 4 to 6 weeks for that nonsence and then start trucking! Next project is a restore on Dad's 1930 Pick up. He'd finishe...

Re: 4 speed floor mat

Well I didn't want to hack up the new mat so I'll save it for Dad's 30 P/U. I found some old conveyer belting with a good rubber side and went to work with a couple up box cutter blades and copied a paper template. It turned out fairly good and is heavy duty for sure. I don't think I'll need a new o...

Another good test is to hold a flame against the glass. One image reflected = single pane plate. Two images= laminate.

The shaft tube can be made up at a muffler shop. Not original but functional.

Re: 1931 Rear Hub Problem

I have a little tip that may help you. If you have and old buggered hub cap, screw it on and drill a hole in it to accept the straw from your favorite penetrant oil. Fill it up after you have laid the heat to it and go have a beer or two. The hub cap acts like a resevoir to hold the penetrant agains...

Truck owners book says "Weight Complete with dual Wheels 3,728 pounds" (less the racks).

Re: 4 speed floor mat

Well I spent a couple hours trying to transfer that plate measurements to the new mat and stopped before I cut it. It seems the center of the shift tower is a couple inches closer to the seat riser than the Model A mats design. As such, if I cut it, to fit, it will leave a gap on the fire-wall side ...

Re: 4 speed floor mat

Your question is timely! I just recieved a Model A mat to use in my AA and I have the same trans plate as you. I was wondering if some one has made a template of the mat used in AAs with the four speed tower. I will probably remove the floor plate and make a cut out to clear the oblong raised prtion...

Re: Transmission to Driveshaft Coupler

I believe the spring is there to keep the internal and external teeth meshed together. One coupler shaft I pulled down did not have that spring and pointed bolt installed, and the teeth on both parts were badly mangled and could not be reused. The lack of the parts also cause the shaft to jump aroun...

Re: What year is this?

Your car looks like a 28-29 Special Coupe. Probably a 29 by the looks of the rad shell. A lot of people would love to build that car. I know I did.
Cheers and good luck!
