Thank you. Sharing is 99% of the fun in ownership. I just love seeing how people react to this kind of thing, old timers recollecting, kids marveling. There is a certain universal appeal to these old trucks.

Re: Roll Out The Barrel...
Here are some more. So far the main focus has been on squaring up and supporting the barrel. Hanging the doors made a good frame of reference, allowing plenty of tolerance so they don't bind while moving down the road.

Re: Budd Wheels, Spoke Wheels, Hubs, Change Out...
Thanks! I am really pleased with it. Sad to report that the barrel was not full of aged whiskey though! Fortunately, it did contain parts for the truck that had been pulled at some point. The barrel had some serious structural issues and it appeared that it had been in the process of being removed. ...

Re: Budd Wheels, Spoke Wheels, Hubs, Change Out...
OK, everything behind the gas tank and above the frame built by third party coach builder. Certainly there were identifiable fleet builders who made numerous trucks of a particular design, but then there are bound to be the custom 'one offs' that were absolutely unique. I would doubt there is any ho...

Re: Rusty metal treatment
Excellent stuff here. I like real work truck look too. A technique that has worked well for me in the past is to mix transmission fluid and dish soap in warm water and use a fine scotchbrite pad to scrub it down then polish it with a dry cloth, removing the chalky oxidation and leaving a matte sheen...

Re: Budd Wheels, Spoke Wheels, Hubs, Change Out...
The engine does have the AA prefix. I haven't looked for the number on the frame yet. It has suicide doors that look like a factory job, but I suppose they could have been swapped around. Did the commercial truck cab doors have 4 hinges?

You guys nailed it. According to the MAFCA engine serial number chart: June, 1930 !

Yes. The engine number must have commonly been used as the vin. This was also the case with my Dad's '31 Coupe.

Re: Budd Wheels, Spoke Wheels, Hubs, Change Out...
Just as well to keep it 'correct' and not to do the wheel modification, then. I wouldn't hesitate if it was already altered, or a just basket case. I have been told many of these trucks were ordered as a chassis, then third parties would turn them into flatbeds, cotton wagons, or box trucks, etc, ac...

Re: Budd Wheels, Spoke Wheels, Hubs, Change Out...
That all makes sense. Henry certainly was a shrewd one. Well, rather than make radical modifications for it to accommodate spoke wheels, I think I will just accept it for what it is. It is a solid, complete truck, it just needs a little love. Now, how do I convince the wife I need yet another truck,...

There is at least one wine cork employed in one way or another on several of my vehicles. You're not by chance a Chevy mechanic?1955cj-5 wrote:Hi Kevin,
I carved a wine cork down and slathered it with Permatex #2 and stuffed it in the hole on the end that fastens to the transmission.
No leaks anymore.

I am in the process of renovating a '29 AA. It is titled as a '29 and the body is consistent as such. However, it is set up with Budd wheels, duallies on the rear, with correct hubs/drums for the budd wheels all the way around. Also, it does NOT have a worm gear drive rear end. I don't know if it is...

This one just gets bigger and better every year. I am doing everything I can to be sure there is at least one AA Ford present!
