Upon further fiddling, I attached the short shaft and used vice grips to get the driveline to revolve. It was stuck from sitting.

I see now how it’s supposed to be installed. I’m still wondering why the 4808 housing can’t be installed on the front side of the cross member. Am I correct that the housing rear support for the short shaft is located on the front of the cross member for stock configuration. What type material and where to find for the gasket seal for these two short shaft covers that slide over the outer tube.

I have my 31 AA, rear wheels off the ground and when spinning one wheel the other revolves in the opposite direction. Normal. But why doesn’t the drive shaft revolve. I haven’t removed the drive shaft from the rear end prior to this. Is this normal.

I think you can damage a split ring by driving on a flat tire. Only a guess.
