Re: HEADLIGHT REFLECTORS
Shelby, in your opinion is the steel wool less abrasive than the polish on the silver? If you say they are the same reflector, I believe you. I'll have to give it a try, it sure made a big improvement on your reflectors.

Re: Tires for my '30 AA dump truck
Well done. Re-discovering useful parts is something that I find really rewarding about fooling with these old rigs, when you can make an improvement without pulling out your wallet. It is a good feeling to be able to "use up" some of the junk you've had stashed away for years.

Re: Tires for my '30 AA dump truck
I'm sure they will work on the rear, running singles only. I wouldn't use anything bigger than 6.00 on the front for brake rod clearance. The big tires on the back may give the truck a slight rake, but you will get the advantage of tire diameter to give you a poor man's high speed rearend. Will the ...

Re: Is It Canadian?
I had an untouched Canadian built AA that had Robertson head screws fastening the dash to the cowl. It isn't conclusive evidence that a hoser once touched it, but it may be a useful clue.

Re: Wanted: "A" Pickup Truck
This is the most realistically priced one that I have seen for a while. Probably more than you want to spend, but it seems the beater look pickups have inflated values because of the Ratrodders.

Re: Mystery Rear Shackle
I thought I had read somewhere way back, that there was a special suspension for the ambulances. Does this ring a bell with anyone? maybe this shackle was part of it. I never gave it much thought at the time, hard to say how many ambulances were made, and how many bits of them are still around.

Re: 1930 AA stakebed GVW + water pump problems
welcome. The weight of your truck is around 4400-4600lbs, and they were rated at 2&1/4 tons. My truck is rated 8800 lbs GVW, some others may vary slightly, but this should get you in the ballpark.

Re: Look what followed this Newbie home the other day !
The front fenders for the As and AAs were the same. There were some AA fenders made for sidemount spares that had larger wells to accomodate the 20" wheels. Usually these trucks also had a door with a dimple in the sheetmetal to clear the tire when the door was opened.

It's big dough, no matter how you sugarcoat it, but it is the dream of many an AAer to have an express truck, and there just aren't many of them around.

Re: Look what followed this Newbie home the other day !
A tire shop will be able to put a "boot" in it, basically just a huge glued on patch for bias tires. Go see a tire shop that does repairs on skid steer bobcat tires. They are bias ply and those guys with them always have damaged tires that get patched up continuously. But then you are thro...

Re: Look what followed this Newbie home the other day !
I think you may have a tough time finding decent used tires, but you never know. If you have the Budd wheels with the reinforcing ribs, you can run 6.50s on duals in the back for a little longer legs, but run the 6.00s in the front, anything bigger will hit the front brake rods when you make tight t...

looks like a good start. A 157" wb chassis. Don't start dismantling it. You'll be hauling gravel in no time.

Re: Follow up on lifting 28 cab
Amen to that Russ. That's what it's all about. Putz-ing around the shop with a cold one and some tunes trying to get something accomplished only to get sidetracked by something else you see that needs done, and when you finally go in the house, you've wasted the whole night and got nothing really do...

Re: Follow up on lifting 28 cab
Lowtide, I do alot of work by myself also. Nice job on the lifting setup, and the truck looks great. It can be very rewarding doing things yourself, even if it takes 10x as long, you give your brain a workout (and usually your back too) trying to figure out how to get it done.
