Re: 1928 emergency brake

The left hand brake was standard on your fire truck. Early A's and AA's had left hand brakes that activated all 4 wheels. This was outlawed in some states and the Ford Co. changed the system incorporating extra shoes in the rear hubs for this service brake and relocating the handle in front of the s...

Re: Juggling Differentials

Neil Wilson is correct. Any other sources are incorrect except the(Ford Factory) Service Bulletins. The 4 speed transmission appeared in October 1929 and the 1930/31 bevel gear rear end in Jan. 1930. These are announced in the Service Bulletins on those dates, qv. Sincerely, Ed

Re: To all members please help

A while back Neil Wilson posted a Ford Factory photo of the rear of the 1929 AA used on the home page. I tried to find it without success. It's on one of his responses. Best, Ed

Re: double gasketing at exhuast

I think they mean a double thickness to compensate for any warpage of the manifold. As I recall I once bought two sets of the short version and doubled them up. The dealer first offered the long strip, but I told him this was not for a hot rod and I didn't care for the look of the shiny metal. The f...

Re: does anybody know about hand wipers

Lang's at www.modeltford.com sells just the rubber(8 inch) for $4.95. It's their part #7801BL. Their toll free line is 1-800-872-7871. This hand wiper was a carry over from the T to the A. The WWII Jeep had one on the passenger side; except for the lack of plating on the knob it appears to be the sa...

Re: Touring Fans

Back in circa 1959 my 2 blade became a one blade adding some dents to my otherwise perfect original hood. That was my last 2 blade. After that I've always stayed with 4 blade although I have a 4 blade that someone cut off two of the blades which works OK. Hoods are approx $400 at Rootlieb; fans are ...

Re: 1931 Engine color

The correct name is Model "A" Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards. It's $25 has 23 technical areas in a 3 ring binder with index. It should be available from TAMs or Snyders or MACS or MARC or MAFCA. There's a section on AAs too.

Re: 1931 Engine color

The Judging Standards have a whole section on finishes under the hood including which parts are green and which parts are black. Trust their judgement.

The sixwheeler company is spelled Baico not Balco. They did chain drive attachments for Model T's previously.

Re: Model a Ford Service Bulletins Complete, Dan R. Post ?

The Dan Post version has all the technical info from the 1928-1931 Model A Service Bulletins. The exact copy from MARC has all the promotional material as well, so an item in the Post book on a left hand page might turn up in the original copy on a right hand page. The Service Bulletins is a journal...

If the spark/throttle rods are pitted and are not worth plating you could hack saw them off. These are being reproduced in stainless and nickel. Best, Ed

Re: Making an AA steer easier

Shortening the pitman arm increases the turning circle. Who would want that? Compared with the previous model TT truck the AA takes a lot more turns since there are brake rods in the way and a longer wheel base.

Re: AA Or TT

When determining if a Ford flatbed is a TT or AA look at the middle of the rear crossmember below the middle stake pocket to see if there are rivets or evidence where rivets were to attach a spare tire bracket. The TT never had a spare tire under the bed. The TT bed is smooth in this area.
