Re: Interesting change

Stakebed: In the first photo, you stated the outside brake service arms are from a later '29 than the arms in the center of the photo. I have two '30 or '31 rearend assemblies stashed out back. Both have the latter-style service arms. Or, at least, they look pretty darn close. The levers (portion th...

Thanks, Buddy! The years have flown by too fast. So, I'm not going to try too hard to catch up with you! :)

Re: 31 Detweiler Dump

Dan: Today is my 63rd birthday. I've been into Model A's and AA's since I was a kid. My Dad had Model A pickups when I was a small child. This was before they were considered collector-vehicles. They were just old pickups that Dad could afford as a young man raising a family and buying his first hom...

"Memorial Day"

All: Today is "Memorial Day". This morning, my son & I attended the "Memorial Day" parade in Oak View (Ventura County), California. There were several Model A's (no AA's) and a few other antique and vintage vehicles too. Please, pause and give thanks at some point today to al...

Re: AA axle/springs/wheels on Craigslist

Stakebed: You're absolutely correct about the rearend assembly being quite heavy and difficult to move. One does not necessarily need a winch. I've moved lots of extremely heavy items over the years with rather inexpensive, hand-operated come-alongs. In fact, I've got two rearend assemblies in my ba...

Re: Damaged Speedometer Gear

Gunmetal 2: The speedometer gear I (probably) ruined is like the one in the most far right photo. It's stamped in the same manner too. My truck has a 5.14 - 1 gear-ratio and the speedometer gears in it are fine, fortunately. Bob C: Thanks for the tip about Snyder's possibly selling this gear. If I e...

Re: Damaged Speedometer Gear

Bob: After I wrote, I got to thinking about it. When I got the rearend assembly, it did not have wheels & tires on it. So, I put them on, then rolled the whole thing into my backyard. If the speedometer gear(s) were frozen, then I may have done the damage by rolling the assembly. When rolling it...

Damaged Speedometer Gear

Dear Ford Model AA Experts: I've had a '30 or '31 rearend assembly with the torque-tube, wishbones, brake drums and wheels, attached in my back yard for a number of years. I was told it was a high-speed (that cracks me up!) 5.14 - 1 gear-ratio rearend when I aquired it. This morning, I unscrewed the...

Re: New Member

Hey, Gang: Interesting thread! I've got a 1951 California license plate. On the left end of it is a "C" over a "O" that's over a "M". This meaning "commercial". Below the "M" is "19" for 1951. "51" is at the lower right corner of ...

Re: Solid Front Bumper?

Veger:

The VIN number is stamped on top of the left-side (driver's side) frame rail at about the front left corner of the cab. Therefore, it's necessary to loosen the cab, so it can be lifted to view the VIN. To my knowledge, this is the only place the VINs are stamped on AA chassis's.

You may be onto something there. I've heard something similar to what you've stated. I'm sure that somebody with more knowledge than me will provide an answer to you.
