Re: ZDDP

Vicky, I have not studied the situation too much yet, but my first thoughts were that oil had very few additives in it in the early days, and with a 500 mile oil change interval I'm not going to run out and buy any additives . I have no doubt that ZDP or ZDDP have beneficial qualities, but I don't t...

Re: 1932 BB Chassis Number Decoder?

Thank you, Keith. It's interesting to know that my truck was built in Dec. 1932. That would mean that it originally had a counter balanced crankshaft ( after nov. 1932 ). When I got the truck in a bunch of boxes, it had an engine with an unbalanced crank that was wiped out. I replaced the crank with...

Re: 1932 BB Chassis Number Decoder?

Ron, In the back of my June 1937 Chassis Parts List, which covers all models 1928-1937 both cars and trucks, there is a model identification list. For 1932-1934 trucks the only model listed is BB. For 1935 & 1936 trucks with V-8 engines the model number is 51. For 1936 V-8 trucks the model is 75...

Re: split rings re-arched

Twisted rings seem to get a lot of people concerned. If a ring fits the wheel cleanly and tightly, it does not matter at all what the ring looks like off the wheel. It will be in the proper shape when installed, and that is all that is important. Just remember to always be careful when inflating any...

Jeff,

The truck looks real nice. I'll bet it was a lot of fun to drive for the first time. What do you have planned for a body ? Steve

Re: Old ICC License Plates from AA?

Spectria,

I would suggest that you post this question on the ATHS website, in the discussion forum called the Road Kill Cafe. There is a wealth of knoweledge there regarding trucking history.
Good luck, Steve

Re: water removed from trans

Bob, A year and a half of exposure to water may not have hurt a thing. The gear oil SHOULD not travel from the trans to the rear, but there is really not much to stop it. Normally the gear oil is too low in the case, and too thick to make its way down the torque tube to the rear. You just had too mu...

Re: why is water in my trans

Maacobob, My first guess is that at some point your truck was left out in the weather for a long period of time. Rain likes to follow the shift lever right into the transmission. Yes, if there is enough water in the transmission it will find its way through the torque tube to the rear axle, but as y...

Re: cold out side won't move

Bob, If you get the transmission / rear end warm, ( from the garage, not a road trip ) just crack the drain plugs and the first thing to leak out will be water, if it is in there. Of course if you find water, drain it out and put in new gear oil. Water loves to follow the shift lever into the trans....

Re: cold out side won't move

Bob,

Ice in the gear train would definately stop things from turning. A heated garage makes it easy to tell. Good luck, Steve

Re: piston stamped .070

Rollingsculptor, If you want a 100% restored truck, then there is no question . But if you want to enjoy seeing your truck run and move rather than being spread about the garage for years, I would say don't tear it down now. That rust is nothing to worry about. Think about it, that same amount of ru...

Re: 31 Bud Wheels

I also have had trouble finding wheels that were not rusted apart. I have welded several wheels and had no trouble with them since. I even have two wheels I made by drilling out the rivets to remove the Ford pattern center section which I then welded into good rims that were also made by Budd, but h...

Re: Installing motor

Barney, I'd say that if you don't need to remove the transmission, you'd be better off to leave it in place and just remove and replace the engine. it would save a lot of time and effort. By the way, your 2 speed is an auxillary transmission, not a transfer case. A transfer case is used to transfer ...

Re: 1930 aa progress

Jeff,
Your truck looks great, and very impressive against that spotless white building and floor. And I do mean spotless, Even with a fresh new engine my truck tends to leave its mark under the rear main. Does your truck have oil in it ? Steve
