If the door glass was rolled up, was there a seal to prevent water from running down the glass and into the inside of the door?Thanks nick

The 82-A closed cab originally had a rubber weather seal that fit into the door glass channel assembly (see attached picture). I don't think this seal will keep much water out since the water can run to each side and then inside of the door.

I have found that the rubber weather seal is the same as the seal sold for the windshield to cab. Reproduction channels are not designed to hold the seal.

If water gets inside the door, there is no drainage for the water to get out, I imagine that's why so many door bottoms are rusted out. Before I installed the window regulator and window channels I drilled 3 each 1/4 holes in the door bottoms as close to the outside door skin as I could. I then sprayed 2 coats of undercoating material inside the door bottoms. This undercoating can be purchased at most auto supply stores.

The original 82-A closed cab door had three drain holes at the bottom.

Hi Neil, gotta come back on this one. Could it be that some Ford door manufacturers didn't make the holes? My passenger door is an original closed cab door but had no repairs that I could detect and had no holes. I did replace the door bottom on the driver’s door.

I just looked at four 82-A doors. One of them is missing the center drain hole. So, is it possible that a door got produced with not drain holes? I would think yes. Ford was the manufacture of the 82-A closed cab. So, a miss punching would be rare. Also, the holes were punched into the rear panel from the outside and resulted in a hole with a slight curl on the inside. This basically is a dam which prevents the water from running out. Anything that can be done to seal the bottom of the door where the front panel crimps over the rear panel should prevent future rust out. Maybe the original drain holes could be reamed enough to eliminate the damming effect.

Neil, when you say front panel and rear panel, are you thinking of the outer and inner?
