Top speed depends on which rear-end you have in the truck, the stock set of gears limits the speed quite a bit. We have an early '30 with the stock gears and practical top speed is 25-30, but it prefers to cruise at 22. I usually pull off in 2nd since 1st is geared so low unless I have a load onboard, shift to 3rd at around 10, and 4th at around 20. It'll pull stumps in granny-gear though.

If you want to keep up on tours, you're going to have to find a high-speed rear.

My Early 1930 with "High Speed Gears" can cruise at 50. Unless there is a slight uphill grade. ;-)

What year, do you have a three speed transmission or four speed. do you have a bevel gear rear end or worm gear rear end. bevel gear has 6.6 to 1 and 5.14 to 1. The worm gear rear end is 7.25 to 1 or 5.14 to 1. Is the engine total stock? Do you have 600x20 tires on the old girl. do you have a two speed transmission behind your regular transmission. anymore guestions call 574-221-1475 or e-mail me at terry_rose2002@yahoo.com I have my avator 1929 AA CCPU plateform bed.

Vermont Roofer,

Attached is a picture showing the speeds for the AA at an engine RPM of 2600 (a high cursing speed in my opinion for a stock engine).
