What Manuals and books should I own for the AA?

Post by spectria »

I wondered if someone would would compile a list of documents I should own for best coverage of the AA.
I see allot of things for sale, but I don't know which covers what most completely or which ones overlap, and which ones are a must have.

For instance, this listing: http://sacramento.craigslist.org/pts/2944034916.html

Indicates the Macmillan book (I have it) and another called ford service bulletins, but which one has all the bulletins???

This would be a great list to have for all new members...

Dave,
A "must have" books would depend on what the person's intended usage is (general AA information, restoration, research, etc.).

The Ford Model AA Truck Club newsletter has a list of Ford and other documentation for the AA.

Thanks Neil, I will read it cover to cover, but I ration it, as it is a delight to find each gem...

If restoration and operation are what you're looking for, the green "AA Truck Owner" is not a must have, it's more of a "Oh, look at the neat stuff they had back then" kinda' book. For hands-on service info I highly recomend Jim Schild's book "AA Truck: Suppliment to Restorers Model A Shop Manual". Coincidentally it is also green. When I started out everyone told me to buy the "Green Bible" and I thought they meant McMillans "AA Truck Owner", so I bought it. I was disappointed and angered by the lack of service info in it. I have since come to enjoy it for entertainment purposes, but it is little to no help on technical issues. Luke

The GREEN BIBLE is the 28-48 parts book printed in the 50's.

I have found the 1934 Chassis Parts List gives great blown up illustrations.

is it still in print and if not i wonder what the fair use limitation is if it were to become a copied and circulated item

All:

I've heard that people have purchased the "Green Bible" from eBay from time to time. For those needing one, check eBay out occassionally.

The Green Bible is a later book. Earlier 1930's Chassis Parts Lists hold more information for the AA's. I think 1934 or 1935 were the first with exploded diagrams rather than simply a parts list.
