Is the Starting Crank Bearing for a 29 AA the same as a 29 A? This would be part number A-5461-B.
I see there is an AA-5461 listed for 30-31 in the Parts Price List, Effective July 1, 1931, but I don't see a listing for a 28-29 Starting Crank Bearing.
The reason for the question is that there is a Starting Crank Bearing in place on a 29AA which looks a larger/taller A version. This is one with the U bolts. The problem is that the hand crank won't fit into the crankshaft nut, the bearing makes it too high. The motor mounts are all stock and in good shape.

Re: Starting Crank Bearing
The 1929 AA used A-chassis, A-5461 starting crank bearing. This bearing has flat flanges for the square-design spring clips. Starting June 1929 an oil hole was added to this bearing (this was the design 3 bearing). A bearing which requires u-shaped clips is incorrect.Dan 82-A wrote: ↑October 12th, 2021, 12:29 pmIs the Starting Crank Bearing for a 29 AA the same as a 29 A? This would be part number A-5461-B.

Re: Starting Crank Bearing
The A Starting Crank Bearing will be easy to find.
I'll have to start looking for a couple of AA-5455 spring clips to fit what ever spring is under there, I may have one.
Thanks Neil!

Re: Starting Crank Bearing
More than likely, your 1929 AA has the front cross member with a slightly wider channel (1/29 Ford Service Bulletin). Consequently, it requires the AA-5455-B clips to be used with the AA-5458 design 2 clip bar (see attached). I don't yet have a drawing the the AA-5455-B clip (but, it will be slightly wider than the AA-5455 clip). This drawing will be orders in the near future.

Re: Starting Crank Bearing
Ok, I will check out the measurement of the clip bar when I get it off.
The crossmember does have a reinforcement riveted on the underside area that meets the spring.

Re: Starting Crank Bearing
Your #1 cross member is most likely a replacement. Ford upgraded the service cross members to include the reinforcement (like the 30/31 cross member).

Thanks Neil.
Yes, I took a closer look and the crossmember is bolted in.
