29 AA Rear end?

Post by Barney1930 »

I am a newbie with the AA. We just started working on this 29 AA # AA 1643450 (both frame and engine) 82-A, short wheel base. I came to me with duels. It has a 3 sp tranny and a two speed "heel and toe" behind the tranny. I was told that it originally had a worm drive rear end with single wheels on each axel. There is no bed on it.
My question concerns the authenticity of the duel wheeled rear end. Could this be correct, or is it more probable that the worm drive with single wheels was original?

Barney1930,
AA164xxxx is May 1929. So, your truck would be a May or June 1929 production vehicle. It would have had the worm drive rear axle (or possibility the rare 1929 bevel gear axle). Either axle were single wheel only.

Ford gave instructions on how to convert the worm drive axle to the '30 bevel drive axle in early 1930. So, it is not uncommon to see this. The rear wheels will be the '29 six spoke style on one of these conversions.
