What appears to be an XX to you is actually a star. It belongs there.

THE STARS ARE PLAINLY AT EACH END OF SERIAL #
Re: Help With Frame ID Number
Coin shops sell an acid that allows one to be able to read the date of old coins where the date has worn completely down. That liquid may reveal the missing numbers on your frame.

Re: Help With Frame ID Number
hi there legrandaa if your camera has a black and white mode shoot with that and also try an old style pencil rubbing . both methods reduce the surface distractions and allows more focus on the numbers.

Re: Help With Frame ID Number
Your AA engine number is July to Aug 1930. If you can figure out the two digits, then you could determine which month.
Jul-30 3,702,548 3,771,362 68,815
Aug-30 3,771,363 3,883,888 112,526
Jul-30 3,702,548 3,771,362 68,815
Aug-30 3,771,363 3,883,888 112,526
Regards, Neil Wilson

Re: Help With Frame ID Number
Thanks to all of you for the suggestions and Neil for narrowing down the approximate month. I may try some of the acid for coins that was recommended. Doing a B&W photo might help, too. Thanks again for all the help on this forum.

Muriataic acid works great. Buy it at your local hardware or swimming pool supply.
Don't breathe the fumes.

Thanks Chris,
That is a good idea. I have seen what that acid does for pools so it may work.

Re: Help With Frame ID Number
Ha guys you should stay away from muriataic acid mainly because of the fumes, hydrocloric acid will do the same thing but dose not have the fumes. I use it all the time. You should be able to buy some at your local brick company you"ll like it Hope this helps for removing your rust also!
