Tie Rod Rebuilding

I am rebuilding the tie rods on a 29 AA. I would like to know what would be the best way to get to the tie rods to rebuild them? Thanks in advance.

The spindle connecting rod ends (tie rod ends) can be disconnected from the spindle arms by removing the brake housing plate. Another option is to remove the spindle arms. The drag link needs to be removed to allow the left spindle arm to be removed.

I just did this the other day on my 29 AA. It was easy to remove the pitman arm and then the nuts that hold the spindle arms in place. I used a punch to tap the arms out of the spindles without damaging the threads and was able to maneuver the whole assembly out (tie rod and drag links connected) and rebuild it on the bench. I used stainless steel balls and the teflon easy steer kit. By having a set of rebuilt arms ready you should be able to do the whole job this way in about 2 hours (without repainting the tie rod and drag links).
While you have everything disconnected don't forget to adjust the steering box and realign the toe in.
