What am I doing wrong?

Post by Rhonda »

Hi. Could anyone advise me as to what I may be doing wrong in regards to selling a restored Model AA dump truck? I haven't even had one inquiry. Is my price to high? Forgive me as I know nothing about these beautiful vehicles. I inherited this beauty and I have no choice but to let her go. Thanks for any help. rsibert@bak.rr.com

Hi Ronda,

Pictures are very effective in getting more interest, and if you have anybody in your area that can give an honest evaluation of the condition and quality of the restoration so you can provide that. You may get more inquiries.

The restoration would have to be pretty top notch to fetch 11K, a ribbon or two or proven show point status would probably support that price.

I think to many of us purchased "restored" vehicles and ended up with really poorly done hack jobs and ended up having to redo the entire vehicle from the ground up.

Here is a link to the Mafca (Model A Ford Club of America) chapter page for California, take a look here and see if you can locate a local chapter in your area, talk to them about appraising your truck.

Good luck, I wish I was closer so I could take a look, I love AA's and a decent dump truck would look great next to my 1930 platform!

Well thank you, thank you!!! I'll take your advice. Fortunately it has been beautifully restored with all original parts. No ribbons. I have pictures to attach for anyone interested. And I would certainly accept less for it. But not a soul has asked about. So, I'll contact MAFCA. Again thank you so much. Rhonda

Hello Rhonda,
I looked at the one picture you sent (a little out of focus). It does look like a good restoration. The wheel lock ring, lug nuts, and hub cap on the front wheel look like they are cadmium plated. This is a sign that the restoration was a good one. Most so called restorations are really just what I call "fix up" or "driver" over hauls. I don't think that the dump body is of the Model A era. It has a "cat walk" on the side which was not used until later years. That is a disadvantage for a "restored" truck. Restored means "returned to original".

You are going to need many more detailed pictures to sell your truck. I checked the Ahooga web site and could not find your ad. You are going to have to run your ad about every two to three weeks. Once your ad gets down in the list, those that only look once and a while will not see it. You should also place your ad at:

http://www.dmafc.com
http://www.fordbarn.com
http://www.mafca.com
http://www.modelaford.org

I advertised a truck for a friend. I got 10 to 15 e-mails from people running a scam to get money. Your ad should have generated many of this type of responces. So, there must be something wrong with your ad?

Mike's suggestion is great. If you can find someone who knows about judging the Model A's in a local club to get an evaluation on restoration quality, then that would support your asking price. Or, if you really have a driver truck, then the price would need to be reduced considerable.
Regards, Neil Wilson

Ronda,
Has there been anyone interested enough to look at your truck?
