Recent lucky finds

Post by John - NNY »

I found a Budd 5-hole wheel with lock ring at a swap meet. Light surface rust. I asked the seller much? . . . $20! . . . I pulled a $20 out of my wallet so fast it almost caught fire.

NOS Ford Rear spring shackle bushings for the spring eyes (BB-5791). I bought all twelve for a whopping $15 total!

NOSR Brake Shoes for the 1930-1934 Ford Trucks. I bought four sets, enough to do two trucks for a grand total of $50. There are still two more sets available on Ebay (see the posting in the Buy/Sell section). It sure beats $200 for linnings and $100 labor to install from the suppliers. They appear to be the woven type. There was an earlier thread on woven vs molded linnings (http://forums.aa-fords.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=989). Mixing woven linnings and cast iron drums - bad. For as much use as my truck will see, it should not be a problem. My truck might see 100-200 miles a year when I'm done. And, I dont plan on hauling 3500 lbs of Wheeties.

I re-read the thread on woven brake shoes. Of course, I always read these threads AFTER I have already done something. E. Moore has some very good points that I didn't think about. The shoes may not be such a lucky find afterall.

John, If you'd be interested in selling a pair or two of the rear shackles, I'd be interested.

Send an email to aaford157@nosford.com

John,
Would you post a picture(s) of the rear spring eye bushing showing the oil groves on the inside and outside?

Here is a link of the listing with a picture of the bushing. If you need more detailed info or pictures, let me know.

Hello John,
FYI - those bushings are for the rear spring shackle (two per shackle) and not the spring eyes. Mac's list them for $25.25 per pair. But, if you order them, they are out of stock. Mac's does not list the spring eye bushings.

Spring shackle bushings will work too! I didn't have my parts book handy so I took a guess. I haven't started the rear end and springs yet. I'm still in the 'tear down' and 'what have I got my self into' stages.

Part AA-5791 has a 1-1/8" OD and is for the AA spring shackles after early 1928.

Part AA-5781 has a 1-1/4" OD and is for the AA spring eyes and for the early 1928 spring shackles.

So, other than early 1928 AA's the bushings are not interchangable.
