Oiled soaked brakes

Post by Gordy »

The brake liners on my 1931 AA Stake body are saturated with oil. Other than the oil they are in great shape. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could clean them or is it even possible to clean them? Thanks, Gordy

Brake cleaner and a good stiff brush.

For shoes that are really soaked up with oil I have cleaned of what I could from the surface and then soaked them overnight in a pan of gasoline. Wash off good and soak a second time if needed. It will really bring the oil out of them. When they are clean give them a good cleaning with breakclean to remove any residue.
Be aware of the dangers of using gas and do it in a safe place.
