Greasing the rear end

Post by Steve79a »

Hi need info on greasing the worm drive.
1. Are the two top worm gear bearings greased or does the oil from the lower gear make it up there. Also I guess it is 600w oil.
2. Is there a grease seal installed in the rear of the Dual Hi drive where the U joint connects from the rear drive shaft?
The only drawing from Ford looks like one is install there. It is hard to tell from the parts books. Also 600w oil?

the worm gear bearings are oiled by splash, you can add oil through the plug on the worm gear cap as well, as far as the dual high goes there are seals in it as well, both the front and rear seals are the same, you can get them at NAPA skf part #12404, hope this helps
