Mystery Part ID!

Post by John - NNY »

I think this may be a Model T part. It could also be something for a tractor? Anyone know for sure? I found it in a basement crawlspace where it had been sitting for better part of the century. Measurements are as follows;
Gear measures 5.25" ID and 7.625" OD
It is about 7" high including the hub cap
The center hole is 1" tapered and keyed for an axle shaft
The bonus question is what is it worth?

I think it is a great looking base to a future lamp.

Not off a Model T I don't believe. Quite possibly from a Fordson Tractor.

It sort of looks like the drive sprocket for a model T snowmobile I saw in California last year But I never look that close since to men were underneath working on the tracks. Don''t know what year the T was either! Shelby, Louisiana.

With a little torch work, it could be a Christmas tree stand- like the engine block one made by Richard Morse over at the fordbarn.com...

My guess is that you have an adapter that was part of a kit to make a tractor out of a model A. Your piece went on the end of the axle in place of the brake drum, and from there a chain drove a tractor type steel wheel, which mounted to a bolt on frame extension. As for value, I'd say it is worth just about what you paid for it. Steve
