How to ID a truck

Post by gjinc »

Hi
I am new to these classics. I have what I am told is a model AA ford truck.
It has a stake body on it. I have a title that show a year of 38
The make shows Ford and then some numbers, do the numbers mean anything???
The engine, serial, and license fee are all blank.
Is there a way that I can tell if this title goes with this truck??
Or a way to find out what the truck is???
Thanks in advance for any and all help
Greg

Greg,
The A and AA vehicles were originally identified by there engine number which ended up as the VIN # on the title. What is the engine number of your truck?

The title is not correct since the Model A and AA were only produced from late 1927 to early 1932.

You can e-mail some pictures to me at wilsmor@juno.com and I can tell you what kind of AA you have. You can take a look at the one picture at http://www.fmaatc.org. It is of a 1929 AA Stake Truck.

Greg,
I can not tell much from the picture you send (too dark)! But, the cab is an 82-A closed cab which was used on the AA trucks from the start of A/AA production in late 1927 through April 1930. If the head light I can see in the picture is original, then your truck is a January 1930 to April 1930 unit. I can not see the platform body in the picture. So, I can't tell you if it is the Ford sold platform. The sides on the platform are not Ford sold. If these sides are for hauling grain, then you would have a Grain Truck. I sent you a picture showing engine number AA4172349 (note the star on each end of the number). This is found on the left side of the block just above the water inlet. Your original engine would have an AA prefix also. If it does, let me know what it is. Otherwise the engine has been replaced and will not help in identification.

More pictures showing the wheels and platform body would help further identify your truck.
