30/31 drive shaft bearing race

Post by mbailout2 »

Can the bearing race in the 30/31 torque tube at the U-joint end of the drive shaft be replaced like the 28/29's, or is it cut into the torque tube?

Sorry guys, I used the wrong terminology on that thingee that may cause some confusion. It's actually called a "sleeve" and not a race, although it acts like one. The race is a race of course of course and the race is on the surface of the drive shaft..of course.

The AA-4655 race is a separate parts (like the 28/29 AA and the A). So, it can be removed. Referring to a Ford Parts Price List allows you to determine this fact (as well as many other great facts).

I don't have a Ford Parts Price List, but I did find my answer in the Ford Service Bulletin for November 1930, plus other useful info. In the Ford Service Bulletins Complete, it is on page 513.
I can't find a vendor or supplier that carries the AA-4655 sleeve. Any of you guys have any info?
Thanks for your reply Neil. :)

Good luck finding one. I haven't seen any for sale anywhere.

Hi Red, I may have a handle on this as I've been doing a lot of parts research while looking for my U-joint. I spent weeks on line looking for that U-joint with no results, then suddently, NOS U-joints were coming out of the woodwork.
I'll post my results on the AA-4656 bearing and sleeve at a later date. NOS Ford said he had a set, but wanted $500.00 for it! Hershey Swap Meet next month would be a good bet too, but I can't afford to go there.
These parts are out there, it just takes a lot of work prying the closet door open to find them. :)
I've been getting a lot of referals from one guy to the next and a lot of them panned out!

I have noticed that NOS Ford prices do seem to be a bit high, but then again they are nos parts. Just my my $0.02.
