Valve stems

Post by lfg1931 »

I recently aquired my AA and I removed the rear duel wheels on my 1931 and removed the tires without noticing the valve stem placement.

Are the inner tubes (valve stems) on the outside rear tires mounted differently than those on the inside rear and front wheels? I was just thinking of the access when adding air.

I'm thinking (just my opinion) that the valve stems should face out when placed on the front. That way they face out in the inside duals and the outer dual wouldn't be too bad to fill with a dual head air chuck.

The valve stems are placed for ease of accessibility. The front is on the inside due to the design of the wheel, the rear is one out / one in; back to back. 8)

Ford factory tubes for all wheels are installed the same with regard to the tube valve stem. Attached is a Ford archive photo crop of the outside dual valve stem installation.

Thanks for the replys. Neil, the picture is a great help.

I was under the impression that the split rings were cad plated. They appear to be painted black in the picture. ????

Split rings are the other side of the wheel. On the dual wheels, they are facing each other. 8)
