Serial Number Breakdown?

Post by jschnei9 »

My father is doing family history and he came across a registration for a 1932 4-cyl truck with a weight of 7,700 lbs and engine serial number AA43183558. Any suggestions for how I can find out more details of what type of truck this was? Would like to get as much info as possible and locate a picture of a similar one. Thanks very much for any help.

Normally a Ford engine number which starts with AA if for a 1928 through early 1932 Ford Model AA Truck. However, the numbers end at about 4,900,000.

So, I don't know what you have.

Turns out I had an extra digit in the number I originally posted... should read AA4318358. Is there anything further I can find out about this truck as far as year, style, etc? Thanks again!

The AA means that the engine went into an AA chassis (either 131-1/2" or 157" wheelbase). The number is for an engine produced in February 1930. This means that the engine was installed in an AA Truck in February, March, April, or May. And, more than likey it would be March or April. This is all that I know of that can be determined from the engine number.

An AA truck produced during January through April (and possibily May) would have 1929 sheet metal (including cab, fenders, hood, radiator shell, running boards, aprons. It probably had 1930 head lights, front bumper, and steering wheel.
