Post by gunmetal »

I have a 1929 AA with A front end. It has 6 hole rims not bud rims or spoke. I need to know if and body knows how many leaf springs are in front spring. Mine are broke missing and a mess. Is this the came a the A or different and more springs.

The parts price list shows it as an 18 leaf spring. It would not be the same as any A's.

What I'm going to print comes from the Jim Schild book on AA's page 37.
The front springs for AA trucks include at least four varieties. The 1928-29 truck had a standard AA-5310-AR spring along with the heavier 18 leaf AA-5310-AR. These springs were the same width as the model A car spring but with different rates and number of leaves.
My truck according to the serial # was made in Oct. 29 it has 13 leaves 1 3/4 " wide, it has the 131" wheel base, the longer wheel base had 18 leaves or your could order the short wheel base with the heaver 18 leaves.
I looked in Mikes afordable catalog and the front car spring he sells has 10 leaves.

This might help you:
1928-29AA Trucks (see Service Bulletin pg. 581) concerning front springs:
13 leaves AA-5310-C; AA 131 ½ WB
14 leaves AA-5310-D; AA 157 WB
18 leaves AA-5310-B; August 1929 on.

If you need springs, I have a friend in Washington State that has a barn full of AA parts from dozens of AAs he’s parted out and selling to clean out his barn, and he has very good prices. I know he has dozens of springs and he has rebuilt a set of 29AA springs he’s selling for $50.00. :o
You can contact him @ sangar29@centurylink.net 253 459 5871, and his name is Gary.:)

As a post note of info; the Model A's used 10 leave springs under their chassis, and 12 leaves
as special equipment.

Please note that page 581 of the service bulletins show the springs used at that point in time (i.e. July-August 1931). This does not reflect springs used for '28/'29 AA's.

All '28/'29 AA's were built with a 12 leaf AA front spring. The drawings below show details about this spring. All leaves have AA part numbers except the #12 leaf (same as the #10 leaf for the A spring). Ford offered an 18 leaf '28/'29 AA front spring as a SERVICE spring (not production) starting in August 1929 and details noted in the service bulletins 11/29.

Also note that the page 580, "special equipment" 12 leaf A front spring is not the 12 leaf AA front spring.
