Lifted the cab off today

Post by 1crosscut »

In the begining I thought that I wouldn't have to get to the point of lifting off the cab but one thing leads to another and since the body blocks were bad it had to be done. The benefit though is I was able to get to the serial number on the frame and see that the engine is original to the truck confirming the January 29 build date.

Since the truck has the service brake handle on the left it looks like I need to cut the front left block into two pieces to make room for the brake handle. Am I thinking right or am I missing the obvious?

My belief is that the body block should be one piece and is designed for the left hand brake lever. The block would have been installed before setting the cab down over the hand lever.

That was my thought too. The blocks that I got were mirror images of each other and it looks like the brake handle is smack dab in the middle of the narrowest part of the block. I'll give it another go tomorrow.

I removed the brake handle in order to get the block into place. I was then able to trace the opening for the brake handle on the block and with a bit of work on the band saw I got it to fit.

I can do that. Probably won't be able to until tomorrow or Wednesday.

Hey Spectria,
I didn't particularly like the way the modifications to the 1st block turned out so I made a new one up that has all the meat left on the bone possible. I placed the cut out piece next to it. The top block is what it started out as. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the pics.

I wonder if you could photograph and post the bits when they are in place?

Note my sign off, then you will get why!

Well Dave we all have our vices. The small piece is just scrap. I only included it in the picture as a reference. Don't really think that it will make good pics once installed as 95% of the wood is hidden.
One step closer to getting "Bill" on the road!
