4 speed shift tower

Hi, I need to replace my shift tower on my AA, i have a four speed shift tower with a screw in cup on top. I see where Mac's has one but I think that is for a A and I didn't notice a reverse. Any idea as to where I should be looking. Thanks

What do you mean by "tower". I think of that as the entire assembly on top of the transmission (housing, shifter shafts/forks, and shift lever assembly). I don't think you can order any of these parts form vendors. Replacement parts would be from a donor tower.

I have seen forks, shifters, reverse rod, etc, but not the cast tower itself. What is wrong with mine is where the pin locks the shifter in place, that is torn out, so the shifter is not fixed. So all i need is the cast tower, everything else is good, shifter forks, springs, ball bearings, cams, reverse rod, etc. I have extra forks and shifter if someone wants to get some.

Ford used the same tower from 29-42. I have repaired the tower by reaming the hole over size
and making a stepped pin.

Bobc, I did exactly the same thing to mine! It is like a new one now without having to purchase anything. It is good to hear that others have done things in similar ways. A little welding on the tip of the lever that moves the shift mechanisms tightened it up a little more. A little minor filing of the welded area(s) made it fit and shift great.

Hey bob, if ford used the same tower for so long how come I can't find one. Am I just looking in the wrong place? I am willing to repair mine, but I figured I would look for a good one first.

The part number is BB-7222. You might try Bert's, Little Dearborn, or Joblot.

The part id for the AA 4-speed gear shift housing is AA-7222-B (the one with the threaded cap).

The BB 4-speed housing is not the same but as far as I know can be used without a problem.

Neil, The 32 parts book shows AA-7222-B was changed to BB-7222.

I agree with Neil. I am running an AA shifter housing on my 32 transmission. It works fine.
