AA Rear Hub Museum

Post by Robert Gray »

I have an old junker truck with a 29 cab that has been parked behind my barn for almost 3o years. I was "forced" to take it when a junkyard was going out of business and I was looking to buy some small Model A items. The owner said I had to take all his A stuff or none. The price was right (free) so I did. When I ran in to problems with the rear hubs on the truck I am trying to get rolling again, I , just for the hell of it, took the Hubs off the junker. I was surprised to find that, first, they came off with absolutely no problem and second they were outfitted with "new" style roller bearings. The left side also was the latest style hub with no sleeve.
The brake linings look pristine, even the rivets are shiny.
My guess is the truck had just had a brake job and bearings replaced and then had a catastrophy and was laid up...until the junkie gave it to me.

I guess the point is you never know what you will find when you pull the drums.
