Brownie Auxilliary Tranny

Post by Drew Mashburn »

Mike and Neil:

Thank you for your responses. I was toying with making a bid for a Brownie that was being sold on eBay yesterday. I decided against it. But, looks like one of our AA brothers (Bob C) was the successful bidder.

Here is the Brownie next to a Warford. Since the input shaft is 1 3/8" I think it was for a BB.

Hello Bob,
Thanks for the picture. I can now see that the shift lever would be in front of the seat. Previously I though it would not work in an AA.
Regards, Neil Wilson

Brownie Transmission

Check to see if the 4 speed u-joint fits the input shaft . The 31 Warford has a larger input shaft than the 28/29 Warford . I would think the Brownie would also have the same size ( about 1- 5/16 )

Bud, The input shaft on the Brownie is 1 3/8" 10 spline, same as the BB. There is a bearing in the input housing so the u-joint must have the inner bearing race on it. I have a BB Warford under drive that has the same setup but I don't have an input u-joint for either trans. The output u-joint is 1 1/2" on trans end and 1 3/8" on differential end, both 10 spline.

There is a possibility that it would use a coupling shaft if the brownie attaches to the 4 speed transmission , I just looked in my u-joint supply but dont have what you are looking for . I do have one with needle bearings that has 10 splines at each end one @ 1-3/8 the other @ 1- 1/4 . I will look to see if I have a coupling shaft that will work.
