ok reciently we have had some discussions over bed plank width.
But what about width?

I found strips available at 96" long.
ok so my bed measures 99.375" outside to oustside.

how long is each plank? do they set back a bit from the outside of the frame?

my truck is a 29AA and as Niel was kind enough to post some pictures of a platform I know now that I have an 88a. Unfortunately sans wood and with a small amount of modification on the rear.

the question is the length of the planks. I've decided to use red oak with polished stainless strips (confession time this is a hot rod). Natch 5/4 oak in a standard 96 inches long is expensive but 120 inch planking of the same thickness is nearly twice as much. So I want to make sure about how things are mounted. Is the wood flush with the outside of the platform? what about the strips?

I Searched for a bit and found this quote by Neil-

Yes, the all floor boards are 98-1/2" long. They are grooved to fit under the rear cross sill upper flange (or lip). This allows the boards to rest on the angle attached to the inside of the rear cross sill. The boards are basically flush with the front edge of the front cross sill. The seven center floor boards are 7-1/4" wide which allows the skid strip carriage bolts to fit between the boards.

The two side board should have about 1/4" of clearance to the side members. The bottom side of the outside edge is cut down to clear the rivets attaching the cross sills to the side member. Also, the bottom side of these boards are cut down to clear the corner braces. Without this, the floor boards will not be flat against the cross sills.

it has been a LONG time since ive been on here!! have spent the past 3 days reading all of the talk since i've been gone (April 30).
got a question about the picture directly above my post. what is the small "L" shaped bracket attached to the wood beam under the front of the bed? my 28 and 29 both had platform beds and had all the U bolts but didn't see anything like this on it... but the part kinda looks familiar as i might have gotten one in a box of random parts or something.

There is a matching bracket on the frame that it bolts to. Look at Jeff's frame just behind the cab.

AHH!! that's where it probably looks familiar from, im not around my truck to look but will tomorrow. so the platform goes on with the U bolts and 2 bolts on the front? hmm, i wonder how hard it would be to find a pair of those?!?!

The "L" brackets are in the process of being reproduced. A one time run for anyone ordering and paying up front. The run is close to being made (likely several weeks away).
