I bought replacements for the tapered roller bearing and race and thought that it might help someone else on down the road.

Tapered roller bearing. Timken (39236) Replaces Timken (AA 4221)

Race / cup. Timken (39433) Rplaces Timken (AA4222)

They fit perfectly.

What made you replace them? sense of security or? I know i gotta rip mine apart to replace the seals but wondered how you determined the bearings needed replaced.

Several things.
84 years old.
A couple of slight pits in the race.
Probably would bave been fine but.........
I've gone to all the effort of rebuilding the engine, transmission, going through the dual high next and since I have the rear all apart to inspect and replace seals if figured why chance it.
Once I get it back together again It's going to be great to know that I can fire it up and drive to either coast and feel confident that I would get there. Might take a while though.

true very true. mine are probably the same way and after cleaning off all that goopy oil/grease i really dont want to do that again.

I replaced all the Timken bearings in my Early 1930 split case Timken rear-end. All the bearings were available from Snyder's. The only one I had to search for was the AA-4655 bearing sleeve for the front of the drive shaft. You would think somebody would be reproducing that one..

Hey crosscut (or anyone really) did you get the worm drive axle seals from snyders or did you happen to find napa #'s? I know you found napa numbers for the dual high seals...

i know the seal driver will be needed to install them but i may be able to borrow one of them locally.

Thank you I have mine apart right now and mine seem in good shape and my truck has over 85,000 miles on it. I think mine have been changed.

I believe that I got the axle seals from Bert's. The driver is the way to go on the removal and installation of the seals.
