Brake cross shaft problems

Well after trying off and on while soaking with PB blaster for a few weeks now i still cant get the rivets out of the ends to get the dang shaft outa the frame.

I then noticed in one spot of it right near the drivers side rail the shaft has rusted/pitted about 1/4 of the shaft size away...is it even safe to try to re use this?

What are my chances on getting another shaft + yoke ends?

Should i even worry about it and just cut the pivot ball (usually brass i see split ones in cataloges) in half and replace just that part?

Ive already ground the rivet heads off and drilled holes thru the rivet shaft....

Im kinda at a loss as to what to do haha.

Have you posted pics of the exact spot with the issue. I have a lot of experience drilling out stripped, broken, shafts, pins, even hardened drill bits, but I would need to see what you are up against to advise.

As Neil mentioned those rivits are tough to remove it takes 2 to remove and refit them, if the shaft is rusted thru as bad as you say then it would be best to find another shaft, Snyders have a repair kit that has the bushings and rivits.

Yea they are hard to remove. Do you know what size the rivets are?

The rivits appear to be 1/4 inch, if you already have a hole drilled use a punch that will fit in the hole, you will need a helper the other side to buck up the arm with something hollow such as an old socket, they will need to keep some pressure on while you hammer out the rivit.
