No Brake Lights

Post by wv model AA »

I put a new brake switch on , but my Brake Lights don't work. Now, the tail Lights do work along with the Head Lights.

Any Suggestions? Do you think by have two rear lights might have something to do with it? Truck is 6v.

I am no electrical expert so I thought I ask before I think on my own!

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Use a test light to verify that you have power going into the new switch. Then go to the down stream side of the switch to see if you have power there when the brakes are applied. If you have power there then work your way back until you find the problem. Since you have working tail lights I wouldn't think grounding is an issue but it never hurts to make sure that you have a super good ground between the lights and the frame and battery to frame. Having two tail lights should not cause any issues with brake lights not working.

"I put a new brake switch on "
The Re-pop switches are notorious for being faulty.
I always bench test them before sticking them in the wiring harness.
A battery and a test light will help, and you'll see when the switch makes contact and if it breaks when needs to.

If the reason you switched switches was the fact that you had no brake lights, you could run a jumper from the battery back to the brake light wire and check the bulbs, grounds, etc.

wvmodel AA, You are new to the AA. Here are 2 things I would try, 1 put a jumper across the new stoplight switch, check to see if you have lights. This is with power to the switch. If no brake lights, Then 2 remove the lens to see if there are bulbs in the sockets. No bulbs no lights!!!!

The Tail Lights Work! It’s just my brake lights don’t work. Basically, I realize I'm going to have to re-check the old & new switch, re-wire if need be.

I'm been busy getting the truck ready for a parade in Sharpsburg, MD this weekend to represent Antietam Station.

So, here is the latest pictures folks. Enjoy. BTW, I'm going to surprise my 81 yr. old Dad at the parade that I bought this and he's going to ride with me. :D

With the Woody, the White Walls and my "Bling" Chain, my sled is pimp'n! LOL just kidding!

Enjoy the latest pics. Have a Awesome Day and thank you all for your support!
