Down Shifting

Post by wv model AA »

Silly question on shifting. I'm learning to drive my AA double clutching in my neighborhood, but its hard to down shift. Thoughts?

Also, what weight or brand of tranny fluid should I use if need changed?

Thanks!

Should be running 600w in the transmixer. Rev that four banger up good and try slipping her into a lower gear. Consider your road speed as well, she not going to want to down shift or up-shift if its not time. I would try practicing on a fourth to third down shift before starting in the basement gears.

When downshifting:

Depress the clutch.
Move to nutral.
Release the clutch.
Rev engine.
Depress clutch and down shift.

Takes a bit of practice to get it right.... most of the time

With enough experience you will be able to up and downshift without using the clutch.

Done this all my time in a clutch vehicle, double clutch, revs just right, gentle pressure, synchros or no, it works great!
