Carb Work

Post by captain marty »

I have 2 carbs ready to go back together. I read where Les Andrews says the cap jet and main jet nozzels should be inside the venturi at its smallest diameter. Why are the cap jets so long when purchased? Should I shorten the cap jet to the same length as the main jet so it will be lower in the venturi?

Now that's a good carb site. It does show exactly what I'm asking.
Thank you,

Marty: That is a good site. You might also like Model-A.org There's a lot of carb info and how to make special carb tools. The Steve Pargeter book is a great resource. Do not shorten the jets - ensure the float height is correct or main jet could siphon gas from the bowl. The secordary well can be a bear in working with the comp jet. Don't confuse the GAV port with the comp jet. Flow test and adjust by solder and arb to meet specs. Read and STUDY all the info you can acquire - Carbs are some of the greatest fun with A's, and you'll be an expert in no time...

Important: Bratton's has a 5mm FRENCH tap for working on the Zenith carbs. Do not use the JAP metric, or go by the old Paul Moller books carbs. Get the Steve Pargeter book, and enjoy doing things right on these old cast iron babies.

It doesn't say it's a French tap. It says it's the size tap the French company, Zenith used.

For Model ‘A’ and ‘B’ Zenith Carburetor. Cleans the threads for all jets and idle adjustment threads. This is a quality high speed tap, another one available on the market is made of softer material. This is a 5 MM, 75 pitch tap which is the correct size the French company, Zenith used when making Ford’s carburetors.

Bob C,: By saying "75 pitch" I assume you mean that it is 0.75 mm pitch. Right?
