My effort to salvage some rims and rings from those spent tires , has hit a snag. My Chinese sawsall and jipo blades don't like those steel strands within. What's going to "get-ur-done"? Obviously I should stop utilizing those 25% coupons from HF

Chain/Cable cutter worked for me. I've also used a disc grinder, but gotta be careful...

I use a cutoff wheel in a 4½" grinder to cut the wire.

Yea, that's what I meant.

Use the saws all to take a square out of the side wall where the lock ring joint is so you have room for a very sharp chisel and ball peen hammer. Cut down the split in the lock ring until you get to the wires and then finish the cut with the chisel. Only takes a few whacks. If you cut all the way around the lock ring with the saws all the bead usually will then peel away making the removal of the lock ring easier.

As well trained in this dilemma a sharp chisel at the lock ring split will cut thru the wires. standard wood cutting saw will cut thru the meat of the tire.

What i learned is the wheels can look good but once you take the tire off thier usually junk.

FYI - I use a sawsall to cut a wedge out of the old tire (at the split of the ring). I then use a chisel to cut through the bead (see pictures). Much like other suggestions.

I have not needed to cut any more to get the tire to come off.

I you start with a wheel that looks good from the outside, then I have found about 50% are usable.

I have never had to cut a tire to remove it. A liberal application of hot soapy water and a sledge hammer has always made them come off.

you live in the land of dry. in the rust belt we have to beat rims off modern cars if they stay on too long (thast even when your driving them!)

not fun to have a flat tire and then the rim refuses to come off the car...

Not mine, but can you believe someone had these for sale a few years ago, must have had brass balls.
BTW, ----- If I remember you were in need of rear springs, did you find them?, as I saw that Matt had a pair for sale and not to far from you.

yes i found some locally thanks anyways!

gotta reassemble the rearend if it decides to be warm outside lol i think i have enough parts (internally mainly) to rebuild the rear-end. brakes need going thru but i can at least get the main chunk an di have multiples of brake components cleaned up but need to be checked yet.

i do have 5 useable rims and 4 complete junkers to use as rollers. once im done with the restoration i plan to sell the junkers as garage/yard rollers only for extremely cheap
