High performance AA
Has anyone had any expirence using the "performance" parts from macs such as their fancy heads down draft intake touring cam header ... I want to keep my aa all original but I wouldn't mind a touch of custom under the hood to make people scratch their head a little ... Just wondering if these parts are all they're cracked up to be or just expensive shiny stuff

Re: High performance AA
Doubt if you will ever get it above 35 or 40 miles an hour without doing something with the rear end gearing. Some around here say they can get up to 50 55MPH with the high speed rear ends but I truly doubt that.
What's the hurry anyway. You should just enjoy driving it.

yea its not the engine in these that kills the speed and get up and go - its the rearend and the sheer weight of these.
would be equivalent of making a modern day 18 foot box delivery truck go fast...

Re: High performance AA
I don't know about Mac's stuff, But I've used Snyders hi-compression heads and Stipe cams in previous old fords very happliy. Check out the Ford Barn threads on the subject. There's a lot of experience there. I would not lighten the flywheel on an AA, but just about all the other hot rod stuff applies. When I re-ring my current project I'm gonna put a Snyders cast iron 6:1 head on it. I might try a single stromberg down-draft on this one also.

Did you consider changing the trasmission or a Mitchell Overdrive?

Bud,
If your Warfords are in 30-31 trucks could you post a picture of what
you did for the brake cross shaft.
Thanks
Bob

Re: High performance AA
I think I posted photos years ago , what I used was the A cross shaft I added about one & one half inches to each end of it so the activating arms are outside the frame then using a idler that is used on some 28/29 AA's & long wheel base AA's a short rod from the cross shaft to the idler then a rod from the idler to the rear brakes the front rods need no changes

I searched also, wanted to find those pics. Went back to '06. Was it under Warford, or another topic?Bob C wrote:Thanks for the information Bud, I did a search but couldn't find any pictures.
