Gearshift lever plating

Is my June 1929 AA gearshift supposed to be plated nickel or were they painted black?

I believe black is correct.

Thanks, I wasn't sure because my 1929 pickup is nickel.

My vote is nickel if it's a 3-speed.

The 3-speed in an AA was the A transmission and has the same lever finish as the A (per the Judging Standards this was nickel plating with Butler finish).

I believe it's a Dull flat finish.

For the A, butler finish is a process of sanding the parts after nickel plating. Check out the link below:
