AA speedometer gear
Hello I have a 1931 AA Dump Does anyone know where I can find a speed-o gear for it? It is marked 666, I have found aftermarket gears for the higher ratio but not the 666. This is the gear that attaches to the cable. I'm not sure about the worm gear yet. Thanks

OldScratch,
I have a matched pair from an Early 30 AA truck. Speedo driven gear has slot, the drive
Gear has 10 splines. $100 for the matched pair pulled from my truck when I upgraded
To 5.14 gears. $5.95 priority mail flat rate shipping. Total $105.95. I accept postal money
Orders or PayPal. I Dont want to separate the set, as they are a mated pair. If interested send me your phone number or email by pm, and I can send the pics to your phone or email, trouble uploading pics here. Bradshaw

Gunmetal2,
I believe the 29 worm gear high speed ratio was 5.17:1.
Had a set of rear gears, driveshaft gear/speedo gear but sold them long ago.

Re: AA speedometer gear
My driven gear doesn't have a slot it has a squared crimp on the end. Do you know if it will work I think it should if I replace both as A set. I would also have to use a different cable. Looking at Gunmetal 2 pictures my driven gear looks like the AA-17271-G

Re: AA speedometer gear
There are two different 6.6 gears. AA-17271-FR 1929-30 and AA-17271-G (later BB-17271-A) 1930-31.
I assume the first one is for the oval speedometer and the second one is for the round speedometer.

Re: AA speedometer gear
All:
Years ago, I had a driveline (torque tube) that still had the speedometer gear mounted inside of it. It was a good gear because I had removed it to see what condition it was in. I put it back into the driveline. I must have set the drivelind down too hard because it broke a tooth off of the speedometer gear. So, guys, be careful than I was should you ever set your drivelines down with the gear in them.

Re: AA speedometer gear
The driven gear in the set I have looks like the AA-17271-G as well, but there is no square on the small end.
I'm not 100% sure about my gears working for you, maybe someone else will chime in.
As you said, these two gears, and a new cable to fit the slot would work and get you to the speedometer, but I don't know if the speedometer ends were the same.
It's here for you if you decide you need it.

Re: AA speedometer gear
In the Double A'er (2007) there is an article titled “AA Speedometer Gears & Parts” (April 2007) by Neil Wilson (5 pages). That will provide information to use.
