Size and or source for rear brake lining rivets?

Post by Stakebed »

I have a set of lightly used rear AA brake linings and i have plenty of "naked" painted shoes so i just need the rivets. Vendors dont list them separately or stock brake lining material at all so i need a source for the rivets. I was told by snyders they are 3/16 shaft diameter X 7/16 long.

If thats not the case what /where have you guys gotten replacements?

Here are a couple of sources http://www.hansonrivet.com/brake-and-clutch-rivets.htm

If you do a search there are more.

i get a discount thru Granger so are those the correct ones? Is truss head similar to flat head? or do i specifically need flat head ones.

what size head do i need?

can anyone verify the 3/16 X 7/16 will work?

I think a truss head is somewhat countersunk on the underside of the head. I am too lazy to look it up, but I think that's what a truss head rivet is. For the actual size, you could measure the holes and thickness of the shoes and figure how much material you need to go through on the lining and that should tell you how long of a rivet you need.

The Ford parts books are a little confusing. The 1932 parts book shows 64681-S 3/16"x7/16" for 28-32
and 64696-S 3/16"x1/2" for 1931. The 1937 parts book shows 64696-S or 351955-S 7/16" 1928-37 and
then three lines down show 64696-S as 1/2" 1931-34. The 1938 hardware book shows 64696-S as 1/2".
Clear as mud??
