Looking for options on my 31 AA dump (low budget farm truck). Will the 28-29 wheels (the ones with no offset, ie center of wheel is about the center of tire) fit on the later 31 axle? I am running Power Wagon wheels dish out now and found a doodlebug with the early wheels. I have been searching the forum but couldn't find this question. It seems the bolt circle is the same, so they should go right on?

6 slot early dish wheels will bolt on late 5 slot dish wheel axle. Center hole of the hub meant to support the wheel load is different, and the load isn't meant to be supported solely by the lugs.

Looks like you have some Dodge M-37 wheels w/ 900 X 16 tires on the rear. Steve.

The early dished wheels will fit the bevel gear axle, however the interface of the wheel to drum is different and will not stay tight for long, if the wheels from the doodlebug are in good shape it would be best to trade them for what you need, I have seen many early wheels installed on bevel axles, probably only used as rollers.
The large off-set you have on the wheels your running now will most likely break the studs or the flange when loaded.

i thought someone on here had a 30/31 with 29 rims on it. looked funky on the front because of the different offset. The tire stuck out about 2 inches past the fender...

it would look kinda funky on the rear. Im with the others to find the correct rims...

Hello M37: Is there a mfg tag on that dump box. It looks much like the construction of one that was on a '47 Chev pick-up that my father had in late '50s. His was smaller of course, and way outlived the truck. It was put on a trailer frame and is still in use today. I think the mfg was "Converto", who now make dumpster lift equipment. You truck looks great - good luck continuing the project.

There are brass tag data plates for the body on the right side. It is made by Wood (something like Wood Hydraulics and Body Co.) It is a coal body and interesting has 2 tailgates. One gate goes on the tab ears 1/2 way in the body. I would think you delivered on load of coal then traveled to another customer and opened the 2nd gate.

On the comment by BrianT, I was worried about what would happen with that offset. On current trucks, it would burn out the outter wheel bearing. Has anyone ever broke an axle in this manner?

I am looking for correct wheels, or at least AA wheels.

I wouldn't worry about breaking anything. These trucks were overloaded with more stuff than you would probably ever put in that truck. Just my $0.02.

That maybe true, however with that much offset its a different story, we will never know how many of those 3/4 floating axle shafts snapped off in the early days, hence the move to the fully floating shafts in 33, many an A car suffered the broken shaft fate.
