New member with a question about non-factory parts
First time posting here:
I joined FMAATC and the aa-fords forum hoping that I will own an AA of my own one day.
I am looking at a green 31' AA truck with a 4-speed and a stake bed.
Below are 2 pictures of the engine. I haven't seen supports like the green ones pictured. I also haven't seen an AA engine painted black before.
I own 2 model A's and I am having a difficult time comparing what I see on an AA with what I am familiar with on a standard Model A.
Can anyone point out anything they see that alarms them?
It has a Mallory ignition.
It looks like they have a heater shield of some sort on it.
Is this truck engine the same as the engine in my 31 Model A Deluxe Coupe?
Thanks for any input. I am looking forward to learning a lot in the next few months.
Maybe I can find some AA owners close to me here in Florida.

I'm new to the AA group so what does it mean to have optional overload springs?1crosscut wrote:Welcome

Someone else told me it could hold more than the 1-1/2 tons it was rated at. Maybe that is what they were referring to.

Re: New member with a question about non-factory parts
The over load springs are that two smaller spring packs closest to the differential. I believe they bring the weight rating up close to another ton. Very nice option to have on the truck. I bought the ones in the attached pictures from a gent at an auction that bought a fairly rough truck just for the cab. I was fortunate that he sold them to me. They're all cleaned up and installed now.

Re: New member with a question about non-factory parts
Hello Ken,
The engine itself is the same as the regular Model A engine. The "AA" designation in the serial number meant the clutch disc was slightly larger in diameter and the pressure plate had heavier springs in it. The engines were all painted green, except for the oil pan, oil drain tube, oil filler tube just the same as the A engine. I've never seen a manifold heater like that one.
Those green bars from the cowl to the frame have been added by someone. Check the cab to frame mounting blocks and bolts to make sure someone didn't just add these instead of fixing the real problem (metal cab mount area rusted, cracked, or worn through from being loose?).
Goof luck on your "AA" adventure.
Keith

I looks lif the rear end has been leaking. Keep an eye on the oil level in it.
