Re: AA Dual Wheel Rear Fenders

Post by Neil Wilson »

Keith,
On the MAFFI parts data base there is one drawing shown for AA-16308/09 (dated 12/16/31). Short of ordering this drawing from The Benson Research Center, the body types that used this fender is not known for sure. The 12/20/32 list shows BB-16308/09 (1932) for A-229 with dual wheels. So it seems logical that the AA-16308/09 would be for type 229-A for 1931.

Do your later year parts lists show any dual rear fenders for the 229-A service body, 85-B panel delivery, or 290-A standard police patrol?

My thinking is that these three types used the same dual rear fenders.
Regards, Neil Wilson

I am looking forward to the release of the revised Judging Standards for "Heavy Commercial Vehicles". The last set of revisions did not include that section, and although I am by no means an expert on AA's, I have noticed several errors and omissions in that section. For example, I offered to show the people in charge of the Standards the January 1932 AA I had which had cast iron, not steel brake drums, but they didn't seem particularly interested.
Neil, please let us know as soon as it is available.

when I put my service car together I could not find fenders for it . I took a wide fender cut it in half and welded apiece in the middle to go out side my tires not correct but it worked. I lost points on the bracket put not the fenders

Bud,
Do you know what that AA-16337-BR, 1/4" thick, spacer was? AA-16337-B is shown in the July 1, 1931 parts list.

Neil,

The March 5, 1934 Chassis Parts Book lists the following:

AA-16438-B Fender (rear) assembly
RH-85B, 229A, AA-157-with long running boards except with dual wheels 1930-31

AA-16439-B (same as above, but for LH)

AA-16445-B rear fender bracket 85B, 229A, 290A (2 required per car) This was the only listing that showed anything for a 290A

I was hoping some would know what the spacer was , maybe whoever bought Bill Cilker's 229-A would know I think it had dual wheels

Thanks Keith for checking. The July 1, 1931 parts list has the same information.

Attached is the status of my research into AA dual wheel rear fenders. I am still missing the part number for the 330-A bus (passenger/school)

Bud, the owner of Bill's service car did not have any spacer with his AA (as I recall). He does have the rear fenders and rear brackets for dual wheels. I sent both Stephen and Richard an email asking them about the spacer. They both have 229-A service cars with dual rear fenders.

Neil,
I found this in the 1928-1938 Canadian parts book.
AA-16314 Fender (when used with dual wheels) R.H. 28-31
AA-16315 Fender (when used with dual wheels) L.H. 28-31
It doesn't say what they fit.

I received confirmation that the 330-A bus came with body manufacture (Union City) supplied rear fenders. I think someone noted this in one of the posts above.

So, I am now only missing the part id for the 315-A Standrive.
