AA Dual Wheel Rear Fenders

I am researching AA dual rear fenders for revisions to the Judging Standards. I found the attached in the Indianapolis Service Letters. And, I have looked through the AA Ford Parts Price Lists (including the 12/20/32 list).

I could not find any Ford announcement/information regarding the release of dual wheel rear fenders for the body types 85-B, 229-A, or 290-A (the first attachment indicates there will be a release of these fenders). I also have not found a part id for the 330-A bus rear fenders.

Does anyone have more Ford information sources?

It's interesting they show spacer AA-16337-B for use with dual wheel
on the 85-B, 229-A & 290-A but no fender.

Yes Bob,
That supports that Ford produced dual rears for those body types. The spacer AA-16337-AR was 1-1/4" and the AA-16337-B was 1/4". It would be nice to know what these parts actually look like. But, Benson would charge $60 to get a copy of the two engineering drawings.

It would be nice to have an AA'er close to the Benson Research Center (Dearborn, MI) who could make visits and get free copies of drawings. Anyone up for the task?

Kim, "Benson" is actually - the Benson Research Center (Dearborn, MI). A part of "The Henry Ford" museum.

If you go to http://aafords.com/aa-body-types/ you will find a table of all AA body types. If you can't remember that URL, then search Google for "AA Ford body table" and you can find the site that way.

Finding your own answers to AA body types will help you more than spending time asking and receiving someones response. Just a suggestion.

For those who are not familiar with The Benson Research Center, the drawings and parts releases are not given freely, and are considered expensive by most restorers,---- here is a small part of a posting by Larry Shepard on the Fordbarn, on the learning of the recent passing of George DeAngelis.

--- George's name is not well know in the Model T community. He was much better known in the Model A community, where he did extensive research on how the Model A was built. He was a well known author in his own right.

Each of us in the old Ford hobby owes George a debt of gratitude, because it was George who together with his friend and collaborator Ed Francis took it upon themselves to salvage all of the engineering parts drawings, releases, and other related materials when they were otherwise headed for the dumpster in the early 1980s. The materials they saved include the parts drawings for almost every FMC vehicle from the original Model A through the V8 era, including the Ford trimotor.

Virtually all of the recent research that Bruce McCalley, John Regan, many others, and myself has been based upon the engineering documents collection that George donated to the Benson Ford Research Center in the later 1990s. Although this collection's official title is Accession 1701, those of us who have worked with this collection fondly refer to it as the George DeAngelis accession ----.

Since Union City made buses for other makes maybe the rear fenders were a generic in house fender for whatever was ordered. Note I couldn't find an AA330 running board for the bus in the parts catalogue, and the fenders don't have a Ford style. Compare with the ones used on the BB330 bus which have a Ford style tail. Ford parts catalogues don't include the right hand AA fender well fender, most of the standrive parts and other frustrations.

FYI - The AA Body Type table at http://www.mafca.com/data_bodycodes_aa.html is out of date. There are a number of type codes for equipment used on or with actual cargo bodies (example: 188-A is not a body type, it is an equipment-type).

The revised Judging Standards for supplement E "Heavy Commercial" is scheduled for release in 2015. It will include the table found at http://aafords.com/aa-body-types/.

First, a July 1936 Chassis Parts List shows a Model 330-A School and passenger bus as a 1931-32 and a BB-330 bus as a 1932.
Next, a March 5, 1934 Chassis Parts List shows part number BB-16308 as the R.H. rear fender for Model A-330 with dual wheels and part number BB-16300 (think this is a misprint, should be BB-16309) as the L.H. rear fender for Model A-330 with dual wheels. The BB-16309 is what is listed in the July 1936 Chassis Parts List for the L.H. and is probably the correct number and is just listed for the BB model.

I don't know if you can work backwards to find out if there were ever a AA-16308 and AA-16309 rear fenders for the buses or if they just used the BB fenders.
