Is there any difference in the AA marked engine vs one marked A. ??

The engines stamped with an "AA" prefix are exactly the same as the engines stamped with an "A" prefix.

The AA was a signal to the assembly line that the clutch spring was for an AA.

I think the only way to correctly answer your question is to determine if the number on the engine matches the number on the frame. I'm guessing it will not which indicates the engine was replaced.

An early 1930 AA would have had an AA prefix for the engine number.

Yes. My AA has an engine that has only one A on the engine. Two on the frame. The original engine was said to have been pulled out of the truck and used to run an Oil well. (So said my Dad in law as he did it when he was a young man durring the depression). Nice to know some of the history of your toy..

The serial number on the engine shows it was manufactured in may of 1930. Do not know what frame says.

I found my frame number on the drivers side, just in front of the cab where it mounts to the frame. I put on a little acetone then carfully scrape it with a putty knife. This will remove any paint in the area, leaving what is left in the depression of the stamped numbers. Once I found the numbers, I took an awl and traced the stamped depressions to actually find out what the numbers were. Then I wire brushed everything clean, Put on some white paint and wiped it off the fill only the depressed numbers.

My 30 or E-31 has no Serial or markings on the engine or the frame. Also there are no markings to show that they were ground off. On the frame there are marking where the frame was formed !!!!!Shelby, Louisiana.
