ford factory thickness of splash aprons, HELP, anyone know?

Post by birdacre »

i have found a web site that looks too good to be true. rootlieb sheetmetal. they state that their parts are same as original. i checked the gauge of my originals, removing rust and paint and i get around a solid 18 gauge. they state that 20 gauge is factory. they have a great reputation, i am just confused, does anyone have original splash aprons and a gauge that could help. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE, KEVIN IN CT

Today's 20 gauge is about a gauge removed from the 20 gauge that Henry forged. If I was trying to duplicate Henry's 20 gauge I would work with today's 19 gauge or even 18 gauge to try to get close to the original.
