I got to scanning the California Vehicle Code and came up with this: 5051 (for those of us 5150s)

Sounds pretty standard to me - check your local laws though. Our small town has an ordinance about cars sitting on your property that are inoperable - must be licensed with current plates OR stored in a garage/shed. Not ive never seen it enforced nor any other town ordinance but its there so if you got pesky neighbors who like to complain about everything they will probably enforceit then.
