King pin replacement

Post by s147881 »

How are the replacement king pin kits at schnieders? Is an early 30 take 30-31 or 28/29. Do I need any special tools to do the replacement?

Bushings only - king pins were good? Where did you get new bushings?

I replaced mine last year with a NOS set I found on ebay. I've heard the replacement/aftermarkets are not as good, but don't know that first hand. The NOS set was still in the box and was a not too hard to install. You do need a kingpin reamer, for which, I also found the NOS Ford part on ebay. Those, I believe, you can buy new as well from Snyder's or Macs. My old king pins looked great and had no visible wear, so I could have reused them. I'm saving them for a rainy day now.

I found after market bushings. I can borrow a reamer from a friend. After market bushings were 24.00 for set from company out of minn.

When I took out the king pins one of the bearing/bushings fell apart. This has little roller bearing in a spider. Does any one know a source for one of these (30-31)? Also when I took things apart there was a little seal were the front break rod goes down thru the backing plate - are replacements available? Also all the rubbers/felts in the tie rod cups are in need of replacement - are the the same as the car? I did not see them listed in the AA section.

It's best to hone the bushings rather than reaming - or you'll be doing the same job over again soon.

There's not much to watch on the king pin set as it's a Buy It Now sale.
The shipping is a rip off, I would ask and try to get it cheaper because
they should fit in a small flat rate box for less than $6.

Already asked him that question, he said they wouldn't fit in small flat rate, but I think they should fit in a medium for 12 bucks? He said to buy em and he would get accurate info on my location from eBay?

They will fit for sure in a small flat rate box I have sold 2 sets that way,1 set along with the front shackles, I have another set I am holding for a member, there not hard to find, 1 reason I do not use e-bay.

Does anyone have schematic of king pin installation. When I took mine apart there was no felts. Spacers or shims. I also found bushings installed with grease hole opposite grease zirk which trashed the bearings. I am ready to put them back together but not sure what may be missing. I have new bearings and break rod felts but that's it. New king pin bushings are in. Not sure we're the bearings go. It looks different than than passenger one.
