AA radiator splash apron

Post by Stakebed »

Are the radiator splash aprons used on 28/29 AA's the same as regular model A's?

How can you tell them apart if they are?

How can you tell the difference between the 30/31 vs 28/29?

Thanks - making a list of stuff i will be looking for at IOLA and want to get my facts straight.

There was only A chassis radiator splash aprons.

Through June 1930, commercial A's and AA's with the "A" suffixed body types used the 1929 A chassis sheet metal. Starting June 1930, AA's with the "B" suffixed body types used the 1930 A chassis sheet metal.

There are pictures of radiator splash aprons in the June 15, 1930 Ford Parts Price List (and likely other list as well).

The car and truck sheet metal is the same; there are no unique AA aprons. The 28/29/early 30 AA had an apron attached to the vehicle by 4 oval head screws passing vertically through holes in the hood shelves into 4 threaded tabs on the outside of the apron. The 30/31 style is attached with with 4 long hex bolts attached to the inside of the frame horns horizontally and mated with 4 holes in the sides of the apron. There is a tiny difference between the 28 and 29/30 apron. The sides of the 28 have a rib along the bottom of the sides only. The 29-early 30 have a rib on both the top and bottom of the sides.
