Dual high trany installed backwords.

Post by KimVanOrder »

So, on an old doodle bug, gramps had a transmission mounted behind the regular transmission to speed it up. Can an AA Dual High tranny be mounted in backwards to make it an Overdrive?

yes and no... they do work, for awhile but run VERY hot and will eventually kill themselves.

well the "dual high" in its standard config is a 1:1 ratio but when engauged its a 2:1 ratio using planetary gears. Planetary gears just dont like to be ran the other way around. plus they are also noisy due to planetary nature.

I thought someone mentioned an overdrive used in old old old (like 1960's) volvos could be adapted... but to me that seems rarer than the warford setup...
